What Does Hold Mean On Thermostat?

Another day, I got a question: What does hold mean on thermostat? In this post, I am going to explain what it means and how to use the hold button.

What Does Hold Mean on Thermostat?

The hold button on the thermostat allows you to keep it at the desired temperature, which is different from your normal programming.

Think of this as an override button, which will override your normal temperature settings until you change them manually.

There are two kinds of hold settings. The “Permanent Hold” option maintains the schedule override until you manually cancel it.

On the other hand, the temporary hold or “Hold Until” keeps the new temperature for a predetermined amount of time. Afterward, your regular schedule automatically resumes.

Why does my thermostat say permanent hold and won’t turn on?

The permanent hold is the setting for when the thermostat will not be changed for a while ( for example, in unused buildings or when the whole family is going on vacation and no one will be at home).
